As many of you are aware, a tornado struck the West Springfield area in early June. Due to schools in that area being used as shelters, several of our sites had to be changed at the last minute. Great East Festivals would like to extend our thanks to the directors, schools, students and parents involved in the change of performance sites on Friday, June 03. Your understanding and cooperation made an unpleasant job much easier. We’d also like to extend our gratitude to the Agawam Jr High School music staff, principal and physical education staff for offering their facilities without hesitation. To the victims of the tornado, you’re in our thoughts.
Our dates for 2012 are listed below so you can plan your school year well in advance. Scheduling started immediately at the conclusion of the 2011 festivals. As a rule, there are more than 100 groups on the schedule by early September. For the best times and locations, get to us early.
Our present plans call for us to hold our prices as close to this year as possible. However, if the parks increase their costs, we must adjust accordingly. Six Flags and Canobie Lake Park have indicated a possible increase for 2011. It’s important to note that this year, we didn’t increase our price.
Don’t hesitate to register as soon as possible. June, July and August are not out of the question.
Massachusetts educators should be aware of their MCAS testing dates; all high school directors should check their school calendars for prom dates.
Note: Memorial Day weekend will be celebrated on Monday, May 28.
